Custom Tailoring – when fit truly becomes individual
Many customers ask us what custom tailoring at Lucy & Fly actually means.
The answer is simple: In custom tailoring, a pattern is created that is individually developed for your dog. Not every dog fits into a standard size. Some have a longer back, others a broader chest, or unique proportions that cannot be accurately represented with a regular size chart.
This is exactly where our work begins.
How custom tailoring is created at Lucy & Fly
It always starts with carefully measuring your dog. For this, you will receive a detailed measurement guide from us with all the points that are important for the creation.
For a truly accurate fit, we need up to 15 measurements. To ensure these can be determined as precisely as possible, it is helpful to have support: one person holds the dog still, a second measures, and a third takes photos so we can better assess the body proportions later.
Once all measurements and pictures have arrived with us, the actual work begins.
We develop the pattern individually for your dog, draw it by hand on paper, transfer it to the fabric, cut it out, sew it, and check every detail very carefully. Each step is carried out with great attention to fit, protection, and freedom of movement.
Custom tailoring therefore takes significantly more time than a standard model. Typically, the production time is about six weeks, sometimes a bit longer during peak season.
Why custom tailoring is worth it
Custom tailoring is much more than an ordinary order. It is a conscious investment in comfort, protection, and a fit that truly reflects your dog's body.
When a coat or suit fits well, nothing rubs, nothing shifts, and your dog can move freely and naturally. This often makes a big difference in everyday life.
Many customers later tell us that their dog accepts clothing with a truly fitting design very differently – more calmly, naturally, and often with significantly more joy in movement.
When custom tailoring makes sense
Custom tailoring is always sensible when standard models do not fit well or when your dog has special proportions.
This applies, for example, to very petite dogs, dogs with a strong chest, long back, or an overall body shape that is difficult to cover with regular sizes.
In such cases, an individual solution is often the better and more sensible long-term decision.
