Please take our sizing guide seriously – the foundation for a good fit

Our many years of experience repeatedly show how crucial accurate measuring is for a beautiful and functional fit.

If a coat or suit does not fit optimally in the end, it is often not due to the model itself, but because the measurements were not taken quite correctly. Many measure by feel, rely on sizes from other manufacturers, or underestimate how important the exact position of the dog is during measuring.

This often leads to unnecessary uncertainty later on.

Why sizes from other manufacturers are not transferable

Each manufacturer works with their own patterns, proportions, and measuring logic.

If your dog wears a certain size with another provider, it does not automatically indicate which size fits at Lucy & Fly. Our models are specifically designed for active dogs – and that is why accurate measuring is particularly important for us.

How to measure your dog correctly

To ensure that our suits and coats fit well later and do not restrict your dog's movement, your dog should stand attentively and in an active posture while being measured.

It is important that the head is slightly raised and that the tail is held in a natural, upright position. Only then can we later assess whether a model fits correctly in the neck area, along the back, or at the base of the tail.

This position is often difficult to achieve alone in practice. Therefore, we strongly recommend measuring your dog with two people.

It is best if your dog stands calmly on all four paws on the ground. One person holds the head and tail in the correct position while the other person carefully measures.

What matters in the measurements

First, the back length is measured – from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Then measure the chest circumference at the widest part of the chest. The measuring tape should fit snugly but not cut in. Please do not place fingers between the measuring tape and the body, as this can quickly lead to distorted values.

Take note of the measurements calmly and as accurately as possible.

At Lucy & Fly, we also work with three different measurement tables. Depending on your dog's body structure and coat type, a different table may be relevant. The coat also plays a role, as long-haired dogs often need a bit more space than short-haired dogs.

If you are uncertain, we are happy to help you personally

If you are unsure while measuring, we will not leave you alone, of course.

It is very helpful if you send us photos showing how you measured the back length and chest circumference – preferably taken slightly from the side. This way, based on our experience, we can often assess very well which size and model are suitable for your dog.

Of course, we can also discuss everything calmly by phone or via WhatsApp.

Carefulness in measuring is worth it

Please take your time measuring your dog. Whether it takes you a few days or a week – that is perfectly fine.

A carefully determined measurement is the best foundation for a good fit, for more security in selection, and for fewer wrong purchases or returns.

And once you have correctly determined the measurements, many things will be much easier for a later order. Even if your dog changes over time, gaining or losing weight, we can address that together and find the right solution again.
