Why are there different models for male and female dogs at Lucy & Fly?

Why are there different models for male and female dogs at Lucy & Fly?

This question is asked to us repeatedly. And it is important because at Lucy & Fly, the distinction between models for males and females is not a coincidence and not just a superficial detail.

It arises from a very simple reason:
Males and females are not anatomically built the same. That is exactly why they do not always need the same cut in functional dog clothing.

It was clear to us early on that real protection is only meaningful if it is oriented to the dog's body shape – and not just to a general standard idea.

Why the cut is so important

If dog clothing is to fit well, it is not enough to only consider back length and chest circumference. It is also crucial how a model runs in the belly area, how much protection it offers, and how freedom of movement is maintained.

It is precisely there that the differences between males and females become particularly clear.

That is why we developed models at Lucy & Fly that consciously take these anatomical differences into account. Not out of complexity, but because we have repeatedly seen in everyday life that it is precisely there that good or poor fit is determined.

Our models without legs – with targeted belly protection

From the very beginning, we placed particular importance on protecting the sensitive belly area.

That is why there are exclusive models at Lucy & Fly without legs, specifically designed to provide protection between the legs – tailored for males and females.

For females, this principle was developed, among other things, with models like Brunhilde.
For males, the corresponding solution was created with Bruno.

These models have been among our bestsellers since 2019 and have clearly shown us how significant the difference can be when protection and cut truly match.

Later, we further developed this basic idea, added new softshell fabrics, and created additional models. However, the thought behind it has remained the same to this day: protection where it is needed – without unnecessarily restricting natural movement.

Why this distinction makes such a difference for many dogs

Many dog owners only realize in everyday life how crucial the right cut really is.

A model may look beautiful at first glance, but if the cut in the belly area does not fit the anatomy of the dog, either protection or freedom of movement suffers – sometimes even both.

That is exactly why we ensure that our models are not only visually harmonious but also truly functional for the dog.

The feedback in the shop has shown us for years that this distinction is perceived as particularly valuable by many customers.

It's not just about models without legs

The different cutting logic at Lucy & Fly applies not only to models without legs but also to vests and other clothing forms.

There are also versions in female cut and male cut. Because the better a model is tailored to the body shape, the more harmoniously protection, comfort, and freedom of movement come together.

This does not simply create a larger selection, but a more meaningful one.

When models with legs are sensible

In addition to models without legs, we also offer models with legs.

These are usually warmer than variants without legs and provide even more protection for sensitive areas such as:

  • Joints
  • Armpits
  • Chest area
  • Belly area

Especially for dogs that are very sensitive to cold, in wet weather, or during the cold season, this additional protection can make a noticeable difference.

Here too, not every model is equally sensible for every dog. What matters is always what kind of protection your dog really needs.

Our perspective at Lucy & Fly

It has always been clear to us: functional dog clothing must not be arbitrary.

If protection, comfort, and fit are truly to come together, a model must take the dog's anatomy seriously. That is exactly why there are different models for male and female dogs at Lucy & Fly.

Not as a special feature for its own sake, but because we have seen over many years that this distinction makes a significant difference for many dogs in everyday life.

Which solution is right for your dog

Whether a model without legs is sufficient or whether a model with legs is more sensible depends on several factors:

  • Body structure
  • Sensitivity to cold
  • Everyday life
  • Desired protection
  • Gender of your dog

If you are unsure, we are of course happy to advise you personally. Together we will find the solution that really suits your dog.

Because that is exactly what Lucy & Fly is about: not just any model, but the one that truly meets your dog's needs for protection, comfort, and freedom of movement.

Warm regards
